Guidelines for contributors

Discover Australia magazine contains editorial comment, travel articles, interviews, travel photography, reviews, previews, event coverage, festival coverage, news. New writers--particularly journalism students--are encouraged to submit finished articles for consideration. We provide genuine opportunities for new writers to become published alongside professionals.

Writing submissions:
  • Seeking fresh, entertaining, interesting and informative articles
  • Think ENTERTAINMENT, not simply a chronological rundown of a trip/outing
  • Seeking writers who are willing to write for the magazine’s readers

Subjects being sought but not limited to:
  • Places
  • People
  • Tourist attractions
  • Events
  • Festival coverage
  • Dining experiences
  • Accommodation reviews
  • Camping
  • Caravanning
  • Bushwalking
  • Fishing
  • Four-wheel drive trips
  • Interviews with professional Australian travel photographers and writers

Writing and photography requirements:
  • Send a brief outline of your article via email to the Editor before sending article
  • Articles of 800-1400 words with 6-10 photographs
  • Articles of 600-800 words with 4-6 photographs
  • Articles of 400-600 words with 2-3 photographs
  • Each article must be supplied in Word format, double-spaced and include a word count
  • Photographs to be lo-resolution jpegs and supplied via email as separate attachments with article
  • Photographs must be 500 pixels on the longest side, Quality 8 in Photoshop or similar at 72dpi
  • A separate photograph captions list in Word format must be supplied with photographs
  • Contributors will be credited by name and will retain copyright of their work
